COUNTY CAUCUS MAY 2008
Our county caucus was held at the 2008 Republican Convention at the Augusta Civic Center. State
Committeeman Marc Pembroke opened the meeting. Matthew Schaeffer was elected chairman and Elaine
Aloes was elected secretary.
Barbara Jones and Sumner Jones were elected Vice Presidents of the convention.
Douglas Thomas, Stacy Fitts, Peter Mills and Kathy Watson were elected to the 2nd District Committee.
Marc Pembroke was elected State Committeeman. Cynthia Izon was elected State Committeewoman. Mark
Brooks was elected State Committeeman-At-Large. We readopted our current by-laws.
The County Committee members were accepted from the town caucus reports with the stipulation that vacant
spots can be filled in later.
Our County Bylaws were accepted. It was voted to form a committee to review our bylaws for possible revision.
A committee of 5 was elected for the review: Matthew Schaeffer, Cynthia Izon, Walter Reuter, Marc Pembroke
and Douglas Thomas. They will report back to us in the fall.
We had several candidates talk to us: Sen. Peter Mills, Miles Ranger, Rep. Donna Finley, Rep. Douglas
Thomas, Rep. Stacy Fitts and Rep.Dean Cray. Also Marc Pembroke announced his candidacy for the
Somerset County Charter Commission for District 3. Elaine Aloes announced she and Kay Laney are County
Charter Commission candidates for District 2.
Our next regular county committee meeting will be the Annual Chicken Barbecue in Skowhegan on June 26th at
Steeves Strawberry Hill Farm on Rowe Road. Our meeting will start at 7 p.m. with the election of county
committee officers.
