Somerset County Republican Committee
|
MEETING MINUTES 6/28/08
The meeting was held in Skowhegan and was opened by Rep. Phil Curtis as none of the State Committee
Members were able to be present. The election of the Chairman was held. Matthew Schaeffer was nominated,
seconded and elected Chairman. The meeting was then turned over to Chairman Matthew Schaeffer. The
election of the other officers was held. Christopher Perkins was nominated, seconded and elected Vice
Chairman. Elaine Aloes was nominated, seconded and elected Secretary. Philip Roy was nominated, seconded
and elected Treasurer. There were no volunteers for the Fund Raiser position so that election was tabled. The
minutes were accepted as printed. The Treasurer’s report was accepted.
We will meet on August 6 at the Skowhegan State Fair booth at 6 pm to set it up for the fair. We would like to
have all the candidates plan a day to be there.
It was motioned and approved to purchase a rifle for our fund raising raffle for the fairs. Maitland Richardson
agreed to be in charge of obtaining the rifle.
Our next meeting will be on September 25 with the location to be decided upon by the Chairman.
Matt announced that our web site has been set up and the site address is www.somersetcountygopme.org. It will
cost about $145 a year. Candidates can have a page or a link to their own websites.
We have candidates for all our seats. Candidates Miles Ranger, Rep. Phil Curtis, Rep. Doug Thomas, Rep.
Donna Finley and Cty. Commissioner Phil Roy spoke. Chuck Mahaleris spoke for Senator Collins and about her
campaign.
County Commissioner Phil Roy said the jail is on track and under budget.
Marc Pembroke, State Committeeman, could not be there but he did send a report on the State Committee that
Chairman Matt Schaeffer read.
Thank you to the Skowhegan Republican Committee for another great Chicken Barbecue and to the Steeves for
being gracious hosts.
We also were greatly pleased to have Ray Richardson be our guest speaker. He reminded us that elections do
count and that if Sen. Gore or Sen. Kerry had defeated Pres. Bush the Supreme Court would not have ruled in
favor of the Second Amendment and the citizens’ right to keep and bear arms. It was a 5-4 vote and without
Justices Roberts and Alito it would have been a 6-3 vote the other way. The Republican Party needs to show
that it is the party that has real solutions for our energy problems. We are the party to GROW JOBS, CUT
TAXES AND CREATE ENERGY SOLUTIONS FOR OUR STATE.
The meeting was adjourned. Respectfully, Elaine Aloes, Secretary
